PAGES
Below is a collection of pages I've put together to help better explain horse colors and associated genes. This is still a work in progress so I invite you to take a look at the external sites listed below. Once I have completed these pages, I hope to publish a PDF document with all of the information included for easier reference.

For those of you that aren't a genetics nut like me, you probably aren't very familiar with genetics terms or even how this - Ee/Aa/nT - means bay tobiano. This pdf will hopefully help. Yes, it's got a beautiful watermark right through the middle of the entire document, but it covers a lot of important terminology and even how to use Punnett squares!
Coat color calculator
You will likely find this coat color calculator linked on just about every model horse hobbyist's website. Simply input the color of each parent you're looking at and adjust the genotypes if you know what they are and this calculator generates every possible color foal that can be produced from that pair.
Colorgenetics.info
This website takes a lot of the research done by UC Davis and other similar programs and combines it into one big resource that is especially helpful for people who "breed for color" which is often what you see in the model horse pedigree assignment world. I have 2 separate articles linked below but the entire website has some great information and goes into a lot of depth. For those of you that breed more than just horses, there's also articles on canines, felines, and even more species beyond that.
Decor Stud
Therese Wolmer of Decor Stud has put together a wonderful resource that gets straight to the point and breaks down exactly what each allele matches up with each gene and how that corresponds to a horse color.
Equine Tapestry
Lesli Kathman, a fellow hobbyist and member of IPABRA, has put together some wonderful resources for artists and horse enthusiasts. I've linked 2 separate resources below. One is to a page with 3 pdf downloads of some of her pamphlets, which are super thorough and useful. The other is to her blog, which goes into further detail on many different patterns, colors, and genes.
Painted Barr Stables
I randomly stumbled across this pdf in my research and really love it. There's a lot of it that overlaps with Decor Stud's resourch and UC Davis's research but it also has picture examples and theorized genes included. There is a direct link that will take you to this pdf but my internet has trouble with the Painted Barr Stables website for some reason. The button below will download the pdf on your device.
UC Davis Veterinary Medicine: Veterinary Genetics Laboratory
This article and all the pages it links to have been crucial in my recent genetics research. All of the information on this website is well documented and researched but it can be a little overwhelming to someone who is unfamiliar with genetics terminology.
